Roddy Wood takes much enjoyment from coaching, helping up and coming players improve their game and horsemanship.
He has long been worried about the small numbers of young New Zealanders taking up the sport. To this end, he can be found coaching school-age polo players three afternoons a week at Waireka. Establishing a program of coaching and tournaments has been a passion of Roddy’s which has resulted in the sport becoming extremely popular in South Island schools.
Players from the age of 10 are competing in the regular competitions with some outstanding young players beginning to standout and compete in club level tournaments. We want to encourage as many players to come and start playing and Waireka offers a great facility to do this and has a great team on hand to assist everyone who comes to learn.
